Our Greenville Vacation!

We went back up to camp for vacation from the 17th through the 21st - Just Nate, Kaiden and myself. We had a BLAST!! It was SOO awesome! It was extra nice since I hadn't been up with just Nate and K in a while, it was just the 3 of us, great "alone time" all weekend.

I won't upload ALL the pics I took, nor will I admit HOW MANY I took (lets just say, it was a LOT). I will, however, give a photo "diary" of our weekend for you all! Hope you enjoy it! (Sorry about the crappy quality - a lot of these were taken through the car window)

We drove up late Thursday night, and got to camp at 5:30am Friday. After we slept for a bit, we spent the day in town. I wore Kaiden in my solarveil MT while we were out, and got a ton of positive comments too! Lots of people thought he looked very comfortable, one woman said she wished she could be carried like that! lol

We went to Moosehead Traders first. They have decent yarn selection, a great selection of handmade droolworthy furniture, and many other interesting (but way too expensive) items. We can't go up without oogling over everything in the store. I did wind up buying some sock yarn though.



We went to the Corner Store. Growing up, Gram would always take us here to buy some coloring books, rock candy, and the occasional fudge. We'd spend the weekend coloring, and the pictures were hung up all over the camp loft. Every time we go up, we have to stop here and get fudge. It is THE. BEST. EVAH! I've never had better fudge.



Lunch was at Flatlanders. It's a great little place, very friendly, good food, great prices. I love the atmosphere here. It's an awesome little restaurant.



From there we went to the supermarket/trading post for groceries and fishing stuff for Nate. This is the view at the top of the hill, on your way back into town and towards camp. Even more beautiful in real life!



After we finished up in town, we went home for dinner and some relaxing. We went back out, and we stopped at Roach River (or is it Stream? Can't remember) so Nate could do some fishing. Didn't catch anything, but Kaiden saw some ducks, and practically climbed in the water trying to see them!



Then we went out looking for moose. We actually did really well that night! Lazy Tom Pond is known as a great spot for seeing moose, but for whatever reason, we rarely see them there. Frinday night we saw a bull and cow, but didn't get to watch very long before a thunder storm rolled in.



The storm finally cleared, and we saw the most gorgeous rainbow. A double rainbow no less! It was so incredibly peaceful, just perfect.



We drove on past Spencer Lake, and up to a pond/lake we'd never been to before. The sunset was AMAZING! Breathtaking! It was exhilarating, and peaceful, beautiful, all in one. I could feel the tension building as the sun prepared to set, and the amazing vibrant colors came bursting out from behind the mountains. Incredible!



Since it was now dark out, and getting late, we went back to camp, where Kaiden helped Daddy out in the kitchen for a while before going to bed. Then it was lights out and time to rest up for another day of adventure!



Saturday afternoon was pretty uneventful. Kaiden somehow opened the fridge himself, and started eating a tomato. Whatever, he liked it, that's all that matters!



We went outside to play for a while down at the lake. The water was pretty low, but it was still beautiful.



Kaiden had fun playing on the dock too.



After that it was bathtime, and time to go out driving again! We headed up towards the Golden Road this time, since Nate had never been quite that far. The drive is beautiful! I don't know where you'll find a more pleasant atmosphere anywhere.



On our way to Caribou Lake (I think that was the name anyway!), we saw some more moose. A cow and calf this time!



Then we saw what we thought might be a bear...



Nope! Another moose!



We arrived at Caribou Lake, and saw a beautiful heron!



This sign was posted on a dirt road... I don't think so!!



We drove a little further, and came to yet another lake! Ripogenus Lake this time, aka Rip Lake.



A little farther still, and we came to Rip Dam. AMAZING view, and another incredible sunset! This one was even more breathtaking than the previous night!



On the way home we saw another moose. Then it was to home and bed again.



Sunday morning we went out to breakfast at Kelly's Landing. They do buffets Sunday mornings, and they sit right on the lake - great views and yummy food! Can't beat it!



While we were there, we got to have a good laugh at the local fire department's name...



This is the entrance towards Kelly's Landing. They still run the trains through the area, and you can hear them at night echoing off the lake.



We went for a day trip along the other side of the lake, towards Rockwood. From there you get a GREAT view of Mt Kineo.



From there we drove up to Jackman, then the 13 miles to the Canadian border and turned around. On our way back, we stopped at a rest area, and took a little hike to see the waterfall.



After that it was time to stretch out, play, and snack on pretzels!



On the way back we went down a side road and got another view of Kineo and some other surrounding mountains.



We stopped by another little dam on the way back so Nate could get some more fishing in. While he fished, Kaiden had fun playing with another duck.



And played on the rocks



Then he found a mudpuddle...



Apparently, mudpuddles are fun...



REALLY fun!



After that it was time to go across the road and play in the field while daddy fished some more. The first activity was trying to stalk bugs in the grass.



Then stopping to smell the flowers.



Or maybe just tasting them...



Then it was back to home to clean windows!



And watch the sunset off the dock, of course!



Monday morning was spent watching the squirrels and birds on the porch.



Then we went for a hike



We went out to a bog/marsh near camp. Nice scenery, but I was surprised we didn't see any animals cooling off in the water.



We did see a seaplane overhead though...



Being worn is very exhausting work!



We hung around at camp for a bit, then helped Gram pack some stuff up, and went out to dinner at the Black Frog. Good food, the company has a great sense of humor (you should see their menu!), but apparently our waitress had a big stick up her butt and didn't know how to be friendly.



After dinner it was time to look for moose again. We were in luck! She was standing right next to the road, didn't give a hoot about the cars sitting there.



We headed out past Kokadjo, the last "real" place before the dirt roads and end of any civilization.



After seeing the sunset, it was time to head back home. We saw another moose, biggest one we've seen in a long time! Of course it was too dark to get a good picture though!



Tuesday we left in the morning. Bye bye Katahdin!
